Our group together decided that our film should be a 15 certificate. This means that no one under the age of 15 can see the film at the cinema or buy/rent it in a shop or on a website.
What sort of themes can you expect to see in a 15 rated film?
Any of the following:
- Strong violence
- Frequent strong language
- Portrayals of sexual activity
- Strong verbal references to sex
- Sexual nudity
- Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
- Discriminatory language or behaviour
- Drug taking
Why did we decide to make our film a 15 rated?
Our Film follows a story of a stalking. The film would contain several sexual violence scenes and strong language throughout. The film would also be scary and jumpy at times, so we all agreed that it would not be suitable for anyone under the age of 15.
What implications is there to making our film a 15?
By making our film a 15, it means that we limit our audience massively from it being a 12A. If the film was a 12A it would mean that anyone aged younger than 12 could see the film with an adult; anyone older than 12 could see this film. However, because we chose to make our film a 15, the audience has been massively limited.
Why did you not just make your film a 12A?
If we were to make our film a 12A it would mean that we would have to limit the film. By making the film a 15 it meant that there was far less limits as to what we could include in the film. The film would be more accessible to more audiences if it were a 12A, however it would not be as good as a film. In conclusion we would like to create a far more immersive and incredible film available to an audience of those who are 15 an older, rather than create a worse film for a much larger audience. It is not about how big the audience is, its more about the quality of the film.
